History

Maria's restaurant, Giuseppes (1970 – 2005) was the longest running family restaurant
of that era in Newcastle.

Originally, the restaurant was opened by Giuseppe, Maria's father. The restaurant was certainly the place for great food and good times. Giuseppes was that kind of a place. Warm cozy and welcoming with home cooked italian food which is still hard to forget.

The restaurant was one of the few restaurants that existed in the early 70s. (possibly the first that introduced Italian food to Novocastrians.)

Maria grew up in the family restaurant. Cleaning tables as young as eight, and cooking her first sauce at the age of nine.
Many a day were spent closely watching mum and dad prepare glorious dishes .

Looking back, one could say this was the beginning.

Many travels to Italy and days spent with aunts and uncles cooking and eating inspired maria to take a journey into teaching her love of Italian cooking. Maria's divine cooking classes were born!

First held in 2000, the classes were run first on a monthly basis then developed to twice month.

The recipes were awesome. The results for the home chef always perfect.it was all about making great italian food simple.

Maria's other love is art. You will see as you explore through this website, incredible mixes and explosions of colour in her artworks and ceramics. Some will remember the amazing menus with Maria's artworks and the bright paintings that adorned the walls of the restaurant. Whether its abstract works of art that sometimes resembles food,
Or naive Mediterranean scenes and Australian inspired creations....
One can truly feel the connection between the creation of food and art.

Maria's restaurant days are gone. The great italian food now comes in a different package.
